Bet or Not on the Timeform 5 star rated horses?

Timeform has been around for decades now, founded in 1948 in Halifax it was bought by Betfair in 2006.
A feature of betfair exchange racing markets is that at the bottom of each race there is the “Timeform 1-2-3” which lists the top 3 rated horses according to Timeform in the race and gives them a star rating from 5 stars to 1 star.
Timeform ratings form a universal handicap embracing all horses in training, in which the ratings range on the Flat from 130 and upwards for the very best horses down to around 20 for the poorest horses.
This is a 1 day study into the success or failure of Timeform’s 5 star rated horses as shown by Betfair Exchange

43 horses all with 5 star ratings from Timeform, how will the bookies ever survive this 😏
I have not only done this for Saturdays racing but I have produced a spreadsheet which includes all of Sunday and Mondays results
The total Profit for all 3 days to a £1.00 level stake on betfair exchange is £79.01 using B.S.P. and £32.20 using I.S.P at the bookies.
I have made the spreadsheet available to download below and pre loaded Tuesdays Timeform 5 star selections

Using the In-Play Running Tool to help pick your ITV7

Worth a quid?

As well as backing to lay and DObing information that can be taken from the in-running trading tool there is a whole host of information and form about every runner that day – each day. This post is about selecting the “Winners” for todays ITV7

First race on the card is 13:50 Newmarket

Click pic to enlarge

You can see from the screenshot above that there are 7 runners in this race and the forecast favourite is Masekela ridden by Oisin Murphy In the Following Screenshot I have expanded the details of this horse to reveal all of its previous runs (which in this case is just 4)

Click Pic to enlarge

The information which I deem valuable in this is has the horse had any success over the distance run to day and at the course in question. I know that this information is included at a glance in the racecard provided by the bookies or racing press but this is just a “D” or “CD” entry you then have to go and find the races, going, and jockey on a different page. The In-Running Trading Tool has it all in one place as you can see from the screenshot above
In the expanded section you can see that Murphy has ridden 3 times, the horse has never run over a mile distance, It has won twice over various track conditions and distance. The Newmarket run in July has a note of interest and next stop is the sporting life website to access the race archives and watch the race as I suspect that looking at this Masekela was only beaten by a head and may have won given another furlong. (look at the in play low price I dont think that it was leading but some worried traders might have thought it was close.

Newmarket 3:15 10 July 2021 race results

If you click the link above it will take you to the Sporting Life results page for that race and you will be able to watch the race (You will need a free account but because it is part of the SKYBET group you can log in using your sky bet log in details)
Next stop is http://www.horseracing.net to see how many times the horse has been tipped and/or napped

Click Pic to enlarge

It has been tipped 6 times and napped once

I have don this for all 7 races and these are my results

  1. Newmarket 13:50 Masekela
  2. Haydock 14:05 Nugget
  3. Newmarket 14:25 Sacred Bridge
  4. Chester 14:35 Mossbawn
  5. Haydock 14:40 Jawwal
  6. Newmarket 15:00 Asymetric
  7. Newmarket 15:40 Uncle Bryn

DOB of the Day (Sunday 12 Sept)

Welcome to todays DOB of the Day Post where, unfortunately there is only 1 selection that meets the criteria laid down for this. La Petite Coco is running in the 14:20 at the Curragh this afternoon and whilst it would be the Ideal contender for today It has 2 horses in front of it in the betting who are both front runners and the markets probably wouldnt be able to sustain 3 selections shortening so much.
Timeform pace hints favour Love and Thundering Nights the two horses in question. I am going to give this one a miss today which after my luck yesterday with the Betfair “Outage” the damned thing will probably go on to win 🙄
There are some higher priced horses in other races which I am going to set betangel in practice mode to automate the process

Click to enlarge in anothe tab

I have created this automation rule to the exact instructions of the betangel maestro, Peter Webb, and I am running BetAngel in practice mode.

The selections I have loaded into betangel are the top DOB possibilities as sorted by the In-Running Trading Tool

Click to enlarge in another tab

If you enlarge the sceenshot above you will see why onlt La Petite Coco was the only one to meet MY criteria, Heavenly Power, Point Lonsdale, and Barrington Court are out side of the odds scope While Fast Response and Turbulance have a “red” short in running total.
This is a “blind” trial as I have simply loaded the selections into betangel with instructions to back the horse 5 seconds before post time at current odds and put a corresponding DOB lay order in the market with instructions to keep when event goes in-play.
I have also instructed BetAngel to record the lowest in-play traded price for the selection.
I have done no other research apart from the initial findings as outlined about La Petite Coco.

Cheltenham Timeform 1-2-3 Three year Trends Day 3 Race 5

The Brown Advisory & Merriebelle Stable Plate Handicap Chase is a bit of a mouthful but for this year Paddy Power has taken over the sponsorship. The first running of this race in 1951 ended in a dead heat and as far as I can discern is the only dead heat at the festival. Perhaps someone can put this right if not. It would be a great pub quiz question if it is!
